Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of Teor (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party understands precisely where to go next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, striking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires revenge.
- The adventurer has experience in the region and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the team access areas they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to form the Questers and Schemers parties.
Fans can expect discovering which players will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
