The star has given the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound honor cash to the trust for venues, which operates to protect the Britain's independent live music spots.

He was given the award on 16 October as his third album the album was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

He has decided to hand the money over to the trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function local spots had in his beginning days.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the performances I performed around the North East, and beyond, when I was just getting going," stated the artist. "These locations are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these venues have ceased operations – roughly 16% of the total UK scene.

In the last year, well-known musicians including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by including a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which benefits independent venues.

Sam Fender also joined in, raising over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to support numerous small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation helped locations that were facing possible closure due to challenges stemming from water damage, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Some locations received financial assistance in modernizing facilities and technical equipment that helped performers and concertgoers.

"The idea that funds from concerts in large arenas helps the smaller venues, where it begins for performers like me, is just logical," Fender has commented.

Fender is far from the only musician to donate his Mercury Prize winnings to good deeds.

When they earned the trophy in 1996 for their album their work, frontman the singer announced that the band would donate their prize money to the organization War Child.

In 2002, rapper and singer she split her award among multiple good causes, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I contributed a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they needed updated gear," Ms Dynamite explained to a publication.

In recent years, Ezra Collective contributed their funds to the community center that supported their band, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Also 1994 winners they gave their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was found to have the condition.

"Winning was sufficient," stated artist Small. "The prize was the extra but we didn't require the extra, because we had the cake. So our success touched another person's life."

Last week, the MVT revealed it had rescued a couple of local spots in that region, by transferring them to community ownership.

One venue in that area and the second in Bristol were bought under the community ownership initiative, which is supported by the arts council and music fans who buy "stakes" in the venues.
